The Sisters of Mercy Health System has announced it is to build a new 40,000-square-foot datacenter in Washington, Missouri.
The St. Louis-based health system has reportedly purchased nine acres west of the intersection of Highway 100 and Highway KK in the Heidmann Industrial Park. Ground will be broken later this spring, with the datacenter expected to go live in August 2010.
The need for a new datacenter to replace Mercy's existing center in Sunset Hills became apparent while working on the system's electronic health records initiative, an ongoing $500 million project to integrate information systems at all of Mercy's hospitals and clinics.
"The datacenter is the heart of the infrastructure of the network," said Mike McCurry, chief information officer. "We looked at ways to improve the old datacenter but decided we needed to build."
