Chicago-based data center services provider ServerCentral launched public-cloud infrastructure services.

Like with other such services, users can provision virtual servers through a web-based portal. And, ServerCentral says each virtual machine (VM) runs at 1Gbps.

The majority of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers do not usually promise performance levels for their clients’ cloud resources, offering only uptime guarantees.

The cloud has been operational and serving clients for some time already. Peter Berg, VP of sales and marketing at ServerCentral, said the company has received positive feedback from the customers who have tried it.

“Our customers are not only leveraging our powerful underlying infrastructure to deliver the fast and reliable cloud service they require, they're hearing performance accolades from their own customers ever since moving to our platform,” he said.

The service was created entirely in-house, ServerCentral said. Using the web-based interface, users can drag and drop computing resources as they manage their cloud infrastructure.

Customers get map-like visualizations of their infrastructure, showing how their resources are connected to each other and, if they need, to the Internet. The portal has real-time performance-monitoring capabilities and is integrated with the provider’s ticketing system.

It was not clear from ServerCentral’s announcement which of its data centers hosted the cloud, and the company’s spokesman did not reply to a request for comment in time for publication.

The provider says it has data centers in North America, Europe and Asia, offering colocation, IP connectivity and managed services.
