US data center provider Sentinel is adding 200,000 sq ft to its NJ-1 site in Somerset, New Jersey, nearly doubling the floor space and increasing the critical load by 20MW.

The site currently has 230,000 sq ft of space, which is nearly full. Sentinel is expanding into pre-leased capacity, which it expects to have online in the second half of 2015. The expansion will be built with modular building blocks so users each get a dedicated suite, and can have customized power densities and resiliency levels.

Founded in 2001, Sentinel has developed more than 1.6 million sq ft and 120MW of multi-tenant and build-to-suit data center solutions for Fortune 500 organizations in industries, including financial services, healthcare, technology and biotechnology.

Expansion in the state
Sentinel isn’t the only company expanding its operations in the state. US Internet infrastructure provider Internap has expanded its Secaucus facility because, like Sentinel's, it was filling up, less than a year after it first opened its doors.

Phase II is now open, adding a further 13,000 sq ft of space and 1.4MW of power – doubling the site's current capacity and power. When fully in use, Phase 1 and 2 are expected to have a combined capacity of 5.6 MW.
