Another Yandex data center has been hit by drone strikes in Russia.
As reported by Russia's state media outlet TASS, Yandex's data center in Kaluga was damaged during a drone strike, which has left several modules disabled.
This comes within 48 hours of another drone strike hitting the Yandex DC Sasovo, causing a fire and bringing operations down at the facility.
"A drone attack damaged part of the infrastructure at Yandex’s data center in Kaluga, completely knocking out several modules," the company said in a statement. "As a result, some Yandex services may experience temporary disruptions. The full extent of the damage is currently being assessed."
At the time of writing, Yandex's status page still lists a power outage at the ru-central1-b availability zone, as well as "increased timings in the Object Storage service" for its ru-central1-e, a, b, and d availability zones.
Yandex has also since commented on the initial strike at its Sasovo data center, noting: "The scale of the damage to the infrastructure is still being assessed. For the moment, we cannot confirm whether it is possible to restore the data center equipment in Sasovo."
According to Reuters, two of Yandex's three supercomputers are housed at the Sasovo center.
This is the second strike to hit a major data center in Russia since the outbreak of conflict with Ukraine, but several data centers in Ukraine have been struck throughout, including multiple in just the last few weeks. Facilities operated by Parkovyi Data Center, MiroHost, Datagroup, Vodafone Ukraine, De Novo, Cosmonova, Omega Telecom, and Ukrtelecom have all suffered damage from drones.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said to reporters in Kyiv: "We always respond in mirror-like fashion. You all know, they have been hitting and continue to hit our data centers. We are responding. I can't share all the details."
Yandex has five large data centers in Russia located in Vladimir, Sasovo, Ivanteevka, Mytishchi, and in Kaluga Oblast around 200 miles (322 kms) south of Moscow.
Kaluga is located around 298 miles (480km) east of Sasovo.
