Schneider Electric has launched a new uninterruptible power supply (UPS), the Galaxy VXL.
The modular 500-1250kW (400V) three-phase UPS can support up to 5MW with four units running in parallel.
The company said that the Galaxy VXL delivers 'up to' 99 percent in its high-efficiency eConversion mode, and up to 97.5 percent efficiency in double conversion mode, which should lower the UPSs’ carbon emissions by a factor of two.
Schneider also claims that the system has a 52 percent smaller footprint than the industry average, at 1.2 sqm with a power density of up to 1,042kW/sqm.
Galaxy VXL is compatible with both Lithium-ion and VRLA batteries, and can be live swapped.
“Our new Galaxy VXL UPS combines a compact, innovative, and highly efficient design with enhanced safety features, providing world-leading power protection for a wide range of AI, data center, and industrial applications. This ensures the high-density workloads of the future are supported by unparalleled levels of reliability," said Tarunjeet Sarao, the company's SVP of data center systems.
On AI training, Marc Garner, Schneider's SVP of Secure Power Europe, told DCD: "We are seeing some of the discussions around the smoothing of the start up of [training] runs and how the role that UPS plays within that. We've done some testing around it, and it's able to manage those peak loads and support the peak load spikes that we see with the start up of an AI cluster."
