European critical infrastructure giant Schneider Electric has acquired Colorado-based clean energy consultancy Renewable Choice Energy (RCE). The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Renewable Choice specializes in subjects like power purchase agreements, renewable energy certificates and carbon offsetting. The deal is expected to enhance Schneider’s position in the rapidly growing renewables market and bolster its advisory services.

“As clean energy reaches price parity with traditional energy, companies are taking aggressive steps to integrate renewables. We are seeing tremendous demand from clients to source a mix of green energy at a competitive rate,” said Steve Wilhite, Senior Vice President of Energy and Sustainability Services at Schneider Electric.

“Together, Schneider and Renewable Choice are the clear industry leader for clients looking to diversify their overall energy strategy, while providing critical sustainability and risk mitigation benefits via clean energy solutions.”

Renewable Choice has served thousands of customers since being established in 2001, including more than 160 businesses on the Fortune 500 list. In the US, it has also worked with the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council.

The company says that its clients have added 1,000MW of new wind and solar capacity to the global grid. Following the acquisition, Renewable Choice will become part of Schneider Electric’s Energy & Sustainability Services (ESS) team.

“The acquisition is advantageous for both of our companies and our clients,” said Pete Dignan, president and CEO at Renewable Choice.

“For over 15 years, we’ve been driven by the desire to provide customers with a choice in the type of electricity they use. As one of the most sustainable companies in the world, Schneider was a logical choice for a partner that would allow us to more rapidly advance our vision of a low-carbon economy and our mission to make it ever easier for all organizations to use clean, renewable energy.”
