Savvis announced plans to expand its Canadian data center footprint by adding a facility in the Toronto market. The company plans to bring the data center online in 2014.

The 100,000 sq ft TR3 facility will support up to 5MW of IT load. The company is already taking orders from customers for space in the data center it expects to have Tier III certified by the Uptime Institute.

Ash Mathur, who is in charge of Savvis' Canadian operations, said, Toronto was recognized internationally as a business center across industries. “This data center signifies our commitment to powering business in Canada through world-class infrastructure services, complemented by advanced solutions for big data, business applications, content management and e-commerce initiatives for Canadian and global organizations.”

The provider expects 70% of Canadian IT executives to outsource a majority of their infrastructure to colocation, managed hosting and cloud services within the next five years. The prediction comes from a survey Savvis has commissioned from the research firm Vanson Bourne.

Savvis, owned by the Monroe, Louisiana-based US telco CenturyLink, operates 55 data centers, with more than 2.4m sq ft of gross raised floor space, in North America, Europe and Asia.
