Data center builder Russo Development has secured planning approval for a large data center park on its 71-acre green-field property in the Franklin Township, New Jersey.
Russo director of marketing Lisa Sikora said the company had multiple design options for the future Somerset Technology Park, but what the site would look like post-construction would be determined by the tenant – or tenants – that take space there.
“We received planning board approval for a few different looks: either two or five buildings,” she said. “We typically do our data centers built-to-suit, so … who the client is will pretty much determine how the property is going to lay out.”
Russo is targeting clients similar to companies it has worked with before, such as large financial firms, “namely because they’re in the area and they have larger data center needs,” Sikora said.
Its past clients include NYSE Euronext, JP Morgan Chase, Credit Suisse and others. This doesn’t mean, however, that Russo will turn away clients in other verticals.
The future park will be open to “pretty much anyone that is a larger client and has needs that fit what we have,” she said.
The site will have a dedicated substation that will be capable of serving it with about 100MW of power. The developer will source electrical service from three separate switching stations in the area.
This will be Russo’s ninth data center development in the New York metropolitan area.
The company is designing the project in-house, planning to secure a LEED certification award from the US Green Building Council. If successful, the project will become its third LEED-certified data center development in the region.
