Tilera, vendor of 64-bit “many-core” processors, announced that information-security company AhnLab has selected its Tile-Gx processor family to power its DDoS Protection System (DPS) series appliance. The companes made the announcement in conjunction with this week's RSA Conference in San Francisco.
The severity of security threats has changed to more advanced, persistent and targeted attacks that disrupt network operation and compromise sensitive information, Tilera said. As a result, next-generation security systems need the intelligence to appropriately counter the rapidly evolving threats, while enhancing their capability to process very high-bandwidth IP traffic.
AhnLab DPS 10000 appliance blocks a maximum of 20Gbps inbound DDoS traffic and manages a maximum of 30 Mpps inbound traffic-flow throughput. The appliance's features include self-learning of policies based on traffic type, protection against HTTP-targeted attacks and guarding against "botnet" that could become sources for DDoS attacks.
Tilera's 64-bit Tile-Gx processor family includes between nine and 72 processing cores, high-performance PCI Express, multiple integrated 10GbE interfaces, high-speed encryption engines and several on-chip subsystems.
Philip Kim, president and CEO, AhnLab, said, "The immense computing power, scalability and standard programming environment provided by the Tile-Gx family enables AhnLab to add our differentiated features with increased time to market advantages."
