More than 1.01m servers were sold in China in 2011 – a 25.3% increase from the volume sold in the country in 2010, according to the latest China Center for Information Industry Development report released in February, idcps reported.
The report, titled 2010-2011 China’s Server Market, says HP sold more servers in China than anyone else, followed by Dell and then by IBM. Inspur Group, a major IT-solutions provider of China, remained the market leader among domestic server vendors, a position it has maintained since 2002.
In general, China’s server market in 2011 remained stable, the report says. Servers with four CPUs and eight CPUs grew at a rate of more than 200% thanks to the proliferation of cloud computing and growing demand for Big Data processing capacity.
IBM and HP are the top two brands in the high-end server market, followed by Inspur, whose TS850 servers account for 15% of the total market share.
The Internet industry and the government are the two largest growth drivers in China’s server market.
Development of the internet industry, including online video, online-games and e-commerce, spurred 59% growth for the telecommunications industry, making it China’s fastest-growing industry in 2011.
Development and deployment of e-government technologies stimulates the expansion of IT infrastructure. In this aspect, Inspur holds a leading position in this vertical, with 28% market share, followed by Dell, which has 10% market share.
