Hitachi has launched a business unit that aims to be a one-stop shop for companies looking to outsource data center planning, construction and operation, IDG News Service reported.
Called Gnext Facility and IT Management Service, the business unit will deliver everything from standard data center buildings to containerized data center solutions. These services are for companies that want a data center on their own property but don’t want to build or operate it themselves.
The unit is kicking off in Japan, China, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam and will focus on these locations initially.
Hitachi is targeting US$1.25bn in revenue for the data center unit by the end of March 2016, IDG said. This will be about 10% of the company’s total projected revenue for that fiscal year.
With this move Hitachi is expanding the number of market segments where it competes with other major IT hardware vendors. Companies like HP, IBM and Dell all provide full-package data center outsourcing services to companies.
