Local officials have approved a 10-year tax break on utilities for the data center provider RagingWire as an incentive to expand its data center in Sacramento County, California. The company plans to add about 180,000 sq ft to its existing 200,000 sq ft facility, an expansion expected to bring more than $7.7m in new tax revenue to the county over the same 10 year period.

Roger Dickinson, chair of the county Board of Supervisors, said the agreement was an example of a private-public partnership that results in new revenue for the county. "This is a performance-based agreement that will not only keep a high-tech, green company in our area, but will generate up to 20 new jobs," Dickinson said in a statement. 

According to a Sacramento County news release, the county will rebate RagingWire the difference between the base $150,000 and the total amount it pays in utility taxes over the next five years. The county will pay half of the difference for the remaining five years. 

The board capped the total 10-year rebate amount at $2.8m however.
