Rackspace Hosting acquired Exceptional Cloud Services to enhance its tool-set for developers deploying and managing applications in the Cloud. Through this deal (purchase price undisclosed), Rackspace will add error tracking and Redis-as-a-Service capabilities to its portfolio.
Pat Matthews, SVP of corporate development at Rackspace, said the company was more focused on developers than it had ever been. “We are carefully adding strategic technologies to our open hybrid cloud portfolio, while keeping the needs of application developers in mind,” he said.
Companies that use Exceptional's technology include start-ups like StickerMule and HowAboutWe, as well as established firms like Oracle, Exec, Groupon, HotelTonight, TaskRabbit and Zendesk, according to Rackspace.
The acquisition will include the following products:
- Exceptional.io - Exceptional tracks errors in over 6,000 web applications. It reports errors in real-time and gathers the information developers need to fix them fast.
- Airbrake.io - Airbrake collects errors generated by other applications and aggregates the results for review.
- Redis To Go - Redis To Go makes managing Redis instances easier, whether it’s one instance or hundreds. Faster caching and easier in-memory dataset operations deployed on demand.
Along with the technology, the acquisition brings some new high-value staff to Rackspace. Exceptional CEO Jonathan Siegel, co-founder of RightScale, RightCart and RightSignature, will be joining the San Antonio, Texas-based hosting and cloud-services company.
