Quanta QCT, the Femont, California-based US subsidiary of the US$37bn Taiwanese original design manufacturer (ODM), has chosen interconnect technology by the Israeli company Mellanox, saying it would use the technology for its cloud solutions.

Quanta’s cloud solutions consist of its servers and storage and require high-bandwidth and low-latency interconnect, Mike Yang, VP and general manager of Quanta QCT, said.

“Mellanox delivers a high-performance solution for these applications, and we’re proud to offer it to our customers requiring higher levels of interconnect performance,” he said.

Mellanox provides InfiniBand and Ethernet interconnect solutions and services.

Quanta QCT’s Vietnamese parent launched the North American subsidiary in May, charging it with producing off-the-shelf servers, storage and network switches for large end users that do not necessarily require the scale of an ODM.

Its off-the-shelf products are designed to the specifications by the Open Compute Project (OCP), Facebook-led effort to open-source data center and data center hardware design. Majority of the designs available through OCP were developed by Facebook for use in its own data centers.

In June, Quanta QCT unveiled its first all-in-one turnkey cloud solution, consisting of servers, storage and networking equipment, all pre-configured with Windows Server 12, Microsoft’s server operating system, and the software company’s System Center software.

Last week, Quanta QCT announced a turnkey high-performance computing (HPC) solution it developed together with Bright Computing, a San Jose, California-based developer of management software for compute clusters, grids and clouds.
