Qualcomm has finalized its acquisition of 4G IoT (Internet of Things) technology assets from Sequans Communications.
First announced in August, the semiconductor giant said the deal will strengthen its industrial IoT offerings. Financial terms have not been disclosed.
France-based Sequans specializes in supplying 4G and 5G semiconductor products for IoT.
Qualcomm noted the transaction includes certain employees, assets, and licenses.
"This acquisition supports our commitment to delivering cutting-edge IoT solutions and strengthens our position as a leader in intelligence at the Edge," said Nakul Duggal, group general manager of automotive, industrial and embedded IoT, and cloud computing at Qualcomm.
Georges Karam, CEO of Sequans added: “It validates the strength of our technology and ensures that our customers will continue to receive top-tier support on our 4G portfolio and cutting-edge 5G innovation from Sequans."
In August, Qualcomm said that Sequans will retain full rights to continue to use the technology commercially, via a perpetual license agreement, supporting the company’s ability to expand its 4G business and develop its 5G portfolio.
