QTS, a large US data center provider, has added disaster recovery to the list of services it provides. The two new services are designed to provide network availability to its managed-hosting customers in the event of virtual or physical server disruptions, the company said.

The company offers two disaster recovery services: DR On-Demand and DR High Availability. The on-demand version activates replicated images on remote servers in case of a disaster, while the high-availability one provides constant real-time replication.

Chad Williams, QTS CEO, said being prepared for natural disasters and other “unplanned events” was crucial to today's businesses who rely on their networks as lifelines. “ We are proud to provide our managed hosting customers with these disaster recovery options, along with our expert engineers to help customers understand which service is most appropriate for their business needs,” he added.

QTS’ DR On-Demand service offers image-based replication service for customers with virtual server environments. This is a fully managed service that uses geographically dispersed offline servers that can be activated in case of a disaster.

QTS engineers work with customers to determine and customize the required recovery level, from application level to full server failover. The company is pitching this service as a budget-friendly disaster-recovery solution.

The DR High Availability service provides real-time, continuous data replication of customers’ physical and virtual server environments, ensuring that a current copy of the data, applications and operation system are always accessible. This service uses asynchronous replication between servers in geographically dispersed QTS data centers.

Point-in-time recovery options allow customers to failover to the most current data or to a specific date and time.
