QTS Data Centers founder and former CEO Chad Williams has launched a new venture investing in to commercial property.
Williams has rebranded Quality Group of Cos, the family office investment vehicle which spawned QTS, into Quality Growth Cos (QGC).
“We’re growing from a group of companies to an operating business of purpose-built ventures, each designed to lead with speed, shaped by experience, and driven by mission,” a company statement said.
“This is more than a name change. It reflects what we’ve built, who we are, and what’s coming next.”
Details of the ventures it will back, and whether they will include any data center firms, will be revealed in the Fall.
Williams said: “Growth isn’t something that just happens - it’s something we engineer. At QGC, we don’t simply invest. We create operating businesses that scale with purpose.”
The company is also launching a philanthropic arm, QFoundation, to support veterans, first responders, and their families.
Williams founded QTS in Kansas City in 2003, and the business still maintains its original data center at its Overland Park headquarters in the city. Running since 2003, it has 200kW of power.
However, the company has scaled up significantly since then, with its growth accelerating after it was acquired by Blackstone in 2021 for $10 billion.
It now operates facilities across the US and around the world. The company’s current projects include a £10bn ($13.3bn) hyperscale facility in Northumberland, UK, which gained planning permission in March.
He announced he was stepping down as CEO in March, and officially relinquished his position on April 1.
