QTS has added yet another layer of customization to its data center portfolio: build-to-suit services. Going after enterprise clients, the company is offering to build out exactly the kind of data center a particular customer needs at one of its properties.
QTS CTO Brian Johnston said on Tuesday the addition of build-to-suit services was a strategic move built on the company’s success with enterprise customers.
“Offering a build-to-suit solution is an additional opportunity to meet and exceed the highly specialized requirements of enterprise customers,” he said.
The data center provider said it was also expanding its enterprise team. The company appointed Tom Mertz as executive VP of enterprise sales and hired Greg Pettine as national director of real-estate relationships, who will report to Mertz.
Companies offering build-to-suit data centers include the San Francisco-based global giant Digital Realty Trust, Benaroya in the Seattle area, Sentinel in the New York metro and others.
Offering highly customized solutions for enterprise customers is key for large-scale data center providers like QTS.
In a similar spirit, about one year ago, QTS started offering customized power-purchase contracts to customers. A customer can reserve high power capacity and a lot of space from the provider and adjust both later in accordance with their actual needs.
