Canadian data cente provider Q9 announced a plan to invest $125m into a new 240,000 sq ft data center in the greater Toronto area. The company's sixth in the region, the facility will be built to house 6,500 cabinet equivalents, according to a Q9 news release.
The provider said this would be its largest investment ever in new data center capacity in the Toronto market. It expects the first phase to come online in January 2011. Once the investment is made, the company will have invested a total of $335m in developing data center space in Canada.
"Canadian businesses of all sizes are increasingly recognizing the inherent value of outsourcing to a data centre and hardware infrastructure specialist like Q9," the company's CEO Osama Arafat said in a statement.
The company's most recent expansion was announced in late October, when it opened the first phase of its third data center in the Calgary region. The 1.8 MW phase has capacity for 1,200 cabinet equivalents.
