One of Canada's major data center services providers Q9 has launched a new data center in the Greater Toronto Area. The facility, located near the company's existing data centers in Brampton, is Q9's sixth data center in the region.
Q9 said demand for data center space was such that it steered away from its original plan to launch Phase I only and said it would now bring Phase II online by the end of the current quarter. Each phase has 2MW of critical-load capacity.
Q9 CEO Osama Arafat praised the company's in-house data center design and build team, adding that the build-out for the new facility was completed in six months.
"This significant competitive advantage allows us to quickly respond to changing customer needs and deliver capacity in very aggressive time frames, without compromising quality or reliability," he said about the team.
By the time the second phase is launched, Q9 will have invested CA$125m in the 240,000-sq-ft data center, its largest data center investment in Greater Toronto to date. Together with the new facility, the Brampton campus will be serving 8MW of critical load.
At full build-out the campus will be supporting 15MW, Q9 said.
Abry Partners-owned Q9 now has nine operational data centers. A tenth one is due to come online in April in Kamloops, British Columbia.
So far, Q9 has invested more than $335m in data center capacity. The last time it had secured new financing was in April 2010, when it received $210m in expansion capital.
