UK-based data center firm Pure Data Centres has completed the installation of its final transformer at its LON01 campus in Brent Cross, London, UK.

The installation of the third and final transformer brings the substation's total capacity to 150MVA, paving the way for the 90MW campus energization, expected to occur later this month.

The 75MVA transformers were supplied by Hitachi Energy and, according to Pure, will support stable and reliable power supply to the campus’s B1 and B2 buildings, with dedicated ductwork already in place for the connection to B2.

Pure said that it faced several unique challenges in deploying the transformer, as restricted space around the live LON01 substation meant that a conventional 500-ton crane could not be deployed. As a result, the project team designed and implemented a specialist gantry system with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tons to allow for the transformer to be moved safely to its permanent position.

After securing planning permission last year, Pure announced plans for the Brent Cross expansion earlier this year. Last month, the company commenced work at the second building on the site, with completion slated for Q2 2029.

LON01 will feature closed-loop liquid cooling to support high-density AI inference and cloud workloads.

B2 will also be home to one of the world’s largest living walls, with more than 750,000 plants.

Pure was established in 2015 and is backed by funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management. The London-based company currently has more than 500MW of IT capacity in operation or development in markets across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The company has projects live and in development across London, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Abu Dhabi, Madrid, Jakarta, and Seinäjoki.
