Polish commercial property developer Adgar is planning to build an unusual five-story data center in Służewiec, Warsaw.

The entire structure will be covered in multi-colored square panels, some of which will illuminate at night.

According to Eurobuild CEE, the site was designed by local firm HRA Architekci, with the panels added to “give the building lightness”. Adgar has obtained the permission to build and the funds required, but the project will only go ahead once the company secures an anchor tenant.

Adgar is primarily focused on office properties but the company has been making inroads into the data center market, having previously built facilities in Poland, Belgium, Canada and Israel. Its customers include Orange, Lenovo, SafeNet, AVG, HSBC and a number of public sector organizations.

The upcoming data center in Warsaw will replace a car park with 15,000 square meters of raised floor and office space. Servers will be located across the top four floors of the building.

“Warsaw, which has been strengthening its business position for many years, will become an even more attractive market for large international corporations thanks to our project. Thus we went ahead with the decision to build a data centre to serve global companies looking for the latest infrastructure in terms of data storage and processing, since this has so far been unavailable in the Polish capital,” said Eyal Litwin, general director of Adgar Poland.

Data centers are becoming increasingly important to the infrastructure landscape of big cities, and their owners have been going to great lengths to make these buildings more attractive. Google recently commissioned artists to paint giant murals on the exterior of four of its data centers. And last month, Telehouse opened a data center on the outskirts of London that features a massive illuminated circuit board pattern.
