Data center operator Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has completed the first phase of its 96MW data center campus, TY1, in Tokyo, Japan.
The first phase of the TY1 campus included the core and shell construction of a six-story facility, expected to supply 48MW of IT capacity.
PDG’s first data center campus in Japan will also include the construction of a second building on the 33,050 sqm (355,750 sq ft) site.
Located in Saitama City, 30km north of central Tokyo, at full-build out the campus will offer more than 96MW of IT capacity across 60,000 sqm (650,000 sq ft) of gross floor space.
The main developer of the project, Lendlease, has constructed the core and shell on a built-to-suit basis for PDG and says the facility has been designed to serve high-density rack deployments for the high infrastructure demands of AI and cloud companies.
The CEO, chairman, and co-founder of PDG, Rangu Salgame, said: “The surge in demand for AI has brought about a pivotal change in the data center landscape. As one of the fastest growing data center providers, our $1 billion investment into TY1 demonstrates our commitment to Japan as part of our strong Pan-Asian growth strategy.”
Tony Lombardo, CEO of Lendlease, added: “As one of Asia’s fastest-growing data center markets, Japan is the ideal location to deliver our first Lendlease Data Centre Partners facility while directly supporting the Japanese Government’s efforts to enhance the country’s data capabilities and digital resilience.”
PDG says 100 percent of the Scope 1 and 2 emissions attributable to construction works are mitigated through the use of verified carbon credits and renewable energy certificates.
PDG and Lendlease first announced plans for a 100MW campus in June 2021 and broke ground one year later. The project is on track for completion in the second half of this year.
PDG was set up with the help of Warburg Pincus in 2017 and operates data centers in China, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and now, Japan.
