OpenAI has hired an executive from Amazon's Prime Video team to join its compute strategy team.
James Argiriou spent more than ten years at the retail and cloud behemoth, most recently on business development and strategic partnerships at Prime Video Sports.
At Prime Video, Argiriou said that he ran tech business development for features including 0-to-1 launches of Bet Tracking, Fantasy Integration, and Prime 360 AI-powered replays. He was also in charge of commercial and technology partnerships with the NBA, NFL, FanDuel, DraftKings, Yahoo, and others.
"It's been an incredible run, from scaling Prime Video's distribution across billions of devices to helping build Prime Video Sports," he said on LinkedIn. "I'm grateful for the hard problems, the support, and the people who cared about getting them right.
"Compute is one of the biggest constraints - and opportunities - in AI right now, and I'm excited to help build the partnerships behind it."
OpenAI has entered into a number of partnerships to scale its compute, with the company projecting as much as $750 billion through 2030. It has entered into cloud deals with Microsoft, Oracle, Google, CoreWeave, and Amazon's AWS, as well as direct deals with data center providers.
Earlier this month, the company promoted Uday Ruddarraju to lead its infrastructure and compute businesses, running its Stargate and other data center efforts. The former xAI exec joined OpenAI last July as head of compute and infrastructure and was named OpenAI's CTO of compute this July.
