The state Department of Information Systems experienced a major power failure Monday that shut down computer services for hours, and department officials expected operations to be back to normal by late Tuesday, the director said Tuesday afternoon.
Director Claire Bailey said the failure affected driver's license and revenue office systems, Department of Workforce Service systems, the Arkansas Administrative Statewide Information System (AASIS ), Arkansas. gov e-mail addresses, the Arkansas Public School Computer Network, and other functions.
Some services, such as driver's license renewal, continued to have problems Tuesday, and the department was working to resolve them, she said.
Officials of the state Department of Finance and Administration and the state auditor's office said state employees still would receive their paychecks on time, despite the temporary shutdown of AASIS, the state's computerized accounting system.
About 3,000 checks for state employees were printed by the state auditor's office Monday, and 30,000 more are scheduled to be printed today, said Karla Wise, chief deputy in the state auditor's office.
Bailey said a component of the Computer Data Center power protection system failed and power was lost to the center. A Computer Data Center-wide power protection problem of this nature has not occurred in the past.
The department is reviewing the electrical system to determine what steps can be taken to further upgrade power protection to prevent a reoccurrence, she said.
