Data center infrastructure management software developer Power Assure has integrated its Dynamic Power Management software with power and thermal management functions of Intel server processors.

Power Assure's product now works in concert with Intel's Data Center Manager software, as well as the chipmaker's Intelligent Power Node Manager technology, Power Assure announced Monday at Intel Developer Forum 2010, taking place in San Francisco this week. The integration enables real-time power monitoring and dynamic power savings policies for Power-Node-Manager-based servers.

Don Harbert, general manager of Intel's Software and Services division, said Power Assure tools were on the "leading edge" of data center power optimization. "The integration of Intel Data Center Manager into the Dynamic Power Management software solution is a compelling showcase for next-generation capabilities," he said in a statement. 

The power-node manager provides power and thermal monitoring and policy-based power management for individual servers and ships with Intel's Nehalem-EP server-chipset platforms. 

Intel DCM scales power-manager functionality to racks and groups of servers and feeds monitoring data into consoles or command-line applications by other vendors and system integrators. The Power Assure software provides real-time and historical data on power utilization and other performance indicators, using it to optimize data center performance to increase energy efficiency while maintaining service levels. One of its capabilities is load shifting within one site or across multiple ones.
