Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) vendors Power Assure and Raritan have teamed up to deliver an energy management solution that combines the companies’ complementary products.

Power Assure’s EM/4 Energy Management software – delivered through the Cloud – will get power-use and temperature data feeds from Raritan’s branch-circuit monitoring solution and its rack power-distribution units (PDUs), the companies said Thursday.

DCIM solutions aim to help data center managers better control energy consumption in their data centers and make changes to their environments safely and in ways that use available power, space, cooling and network resources smarter.

Power Assure CEO Brad Wurtz said the Raritan was one of few vendors that had PDUs with outlet-level controls.

“Raritan’s intelligent power strip delivers the accuracy needed for data center intelligence and seamlessly allows Power Assure’s EM/4 to take action down to the outlet level for emergency procedure automation and demand-response controls,” he said.

In addition to its monitoring products, Raritan has an energy-management software product that competes with Power Assure’s. It’s called Power IQ, which provides a centralized view of power usage and environmental conditions on the data center floor.

The company also has a solution with asset-tracking and capacity-planning capabilities called dcTrack, which it offers as an integrated package with Power IQ.

The DCIM market is an actively growing and already heavily populated space. Players like Power Assure and Raritan are competing with giants like Schneider and Emerson, but also with smaller firms that started out as DCIM vendors. These are companies like Power Analytics, FieldView and Romonet, as well as Sentilla, Viridity and nlyte, among others.
