Portuguese telecoms operator and media company NOS has opened a new data center in Carnaxide, Oeiras, part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The Imopolis II facility, set adjacent to the 18-year old Imopolis I data center, spans 1,000 square meters (10,764 sq ft), of which 410 square meters (4,413 sq ft) is technical floor space - with the possibility of expanding that to 630 square meters (6,781 sq ft).

More to come

The facility features N+1 emergency generators and two UPS systems, which can provide up to 2MW of power.

The site uses integrated free-cooling and redundant, direct expansion hydraulic networks.

“The new data center is the most modern and efficient in Portugal and will increase the company’s capability to support its business activity and to provide service to its business customers, in two areas that require data storage and which are seeing exponential growth: cloud and data analytics services,” Jorge Graça, NOS’ CTO and board member, said.

“In 2018, NOS will be increasing its installed capacity for data storage and related business services by 50 percent, with more new generation infrastructure to be announced soon.”

The company plans to spend €10 million ($12.7m) each year on data center upgrades.
