Comtec Power, the specialists in power services and solutions, has announced that is has designed and installed an efficient, scalable data center for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line A/S who operate Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises. The new data center will support Royal Caribbean's 600-strong European workforce, ensuring the availability of business critical applications to allow maximum productivity across all departments, enabling continuous business development.
James Mead, IT Project Manager EMEA at Royal Caribbean, states: "All six of our EMEA sales offices are reliant on the UK-based data center, which means continuity and failover is crucial to maintaining 24/7/365 business operation. The robust solution delivered by Comtec has already proven itself as being fully capable of supporting our business. We've experienced a number of power cuts since the installation, however, the new data center has insured us against zero downtime of operations.
Designed to consolidate Royal Caribbean's European operations into one data center - previously the cruise line operated two, in separate locations - Comtec coordinated the smooth migration of IT and telephony services in time to support the company's seasonal sales cycle.
"Royal Caribbean enjoys its highest volume of sales between January and March, so timely installation and support from Comtec proved critical, said Mead. "This ensured that our inbound call centre operations were running in time to enable us to gain maximum benefit from this important sales period.
Nick Ewing, senior solutions consultant for Comtec Power, explains: "As the foundation of an organisations IT infrastructure, the data center is critical to business continuity and plays an important role in supporting operational development and growth. Royal Caribbean needed a data center that would be accommodated in a restricted amount of physical space, yet provide the manageability, scalability and robust operation required to grow with the business and support the entire EMEA network.
Drawing on the Datacentre Eco-Structure blueprint for intelligent datacentre design, Comtec Power has met and exceeded the specific requirements of the project, incorporating the most advanced data center equipment and technology from the APC MGE InfraStruXure® range to provide the network critical physical infrastructure needed to support Royal Caribbean's EMEA business. The scalability afforded by APC's technology and the Comtec design is especially critical since the UK-based head office is also responsible for the integration of new offices as and when the need arises.
