ePLDT, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company’s digital enterprise solution arm has opened a purpose-built Vitro data center in Clark, northwest of the Filipino capital of Manila. It will provide colocation services to local businesses based in Manila and Luzon.
Dominating an evolving industry
The telecoms and digital services provider has stated that the facility is built to seismic zone 4 standards, which should allow it to sustain an earthquake of up to 8 in magnitude on the Richter Scale. The site also boasts 11 layers of physical security including vein-scanning biometric devices.
The announcement comes less than a month after the company’s Vitro data center opened in Mindanao, the first Tier II facility in the region, as part of a plan to develop the region’s digital infrastructure.
PLDT has long been the country’s biggest telecoms provider. The national industry was privatized in 1995, requiring companies to establish mobile and landlines in high concentration across the country, thus creating a competitive market and attracting foreign business. That in mind, PLDT’s multiple investments in local data centers show that the company is determined to continue to dominate the telcom industry despite changing markets.
