Singapore and Hong Kong-based telecommunications provider Pacnet has entered into an agreement with PPLive, the operator of television station PPTV, to extend its services to Singapore and Southeast Asia.

PPTV is one of China's largest online video companies, with nearly 120 channels of online TV programming and thousands of programs aggregated from stations across China.

According to Pacnet CEO Bill Barney,  the agreement means PPLive will be able to use Pacnet's network resources, including it's Singapore Data Landing Station, a Tier III data center that went online in 2010, as well as it's EAC-C2C, Asia's largest underwater private data network that links Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, The Phillipines, South Korea and Japan through a 160 Gbit/s cable system.

"The online video market in China and worldwide is growing rapidly and we are seeing more China-based content providers looking to deliver rich media content outside of China," Barney said.

"As part of our strategy to address this rapidly growing market, Pacnet is partnering with PPLive to enhance delivery of Internet video services to the increasing number of Internet-enabled devices."

Pacnet was formed in 2008, out of a merger between Asia Netcom and Pacific Internet, and is jointly headquartered out of Hong Kong and Singapore. The company is owned by Connect Holdings, a private investor group.
