Orange Centrafrique has secured a 4G license in the Central African Republic.
The telco, a subsidiary of Orange Group, has become the first network operator to gain a 4G license in the country.
In a statement last week, Orange confirmed it had signed with the Ministry of Digital Economy, Posts, and Telecommunications for the license.
"Access to 4G represents a significant step forward for the people of Central African Republic and responds to a growing demand for connectivity,” said Orange Centrafrique GM Max Francisco.
“We are committed to providing a quality, reliable, and accessible network for all users, in all regions of the country.”
Orange didn't state when it plans to roll out 4G, a mobile service that first commercially launched in 2009, although the technology was widely rolled out in the following few years globally.
Orange Centrafrique is estimated to have just under two million subscribers. The carrier has operated in the country since 2007.
A landlocked country in the center of Africa, the Central African Republic has a population of around 5.7 million people.
Telecel and Moov Africa are also present as operators in the country.
