Oracle has joined the majority of other major cloud players, in signing up to offer its cloud services on the Equinix Cloud Exchange, the platform on which Equinix interconnects cloud services.
The Oracle Cloud, in the shape of its Public Platform and Infrastructure Services, will be available throughy the Equinix Cloud Exchange in six markets: Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Singapore, Sydney and Washington DC. It should help Oracle customers move to hybrid environments, where their existing Oracle applications, databases, compute and storage connect to Oracle’s new IaaS and PaaS public clouds.
Oracle plays catch-up
Only a few years ago, Oracle’s then-CEO Larry Ellison was skeptical about the cloud, and now the company has to move quickly to deliver applications there. The ubiquity of Equinix services should help Oracle reduce security and performance issues.

Equinix Cloud Exchange apparently addresses these concerns via direct connection to multiple clouds and cloud services, including Oracle, allowing customers to create connections to cloud-based business applications while reducing latency. By connecting to the Equinix Cloud Exchange, Oracle is expanding its platform reach and offers the private connectivity options that enterprise customers want for hybrid-cloud.
The Oracle Cloud should enable their customers and partners to build new applications, extend Oracle software as a service (SaaS) applications, and migrate existing on-premises applications to the cloud. Earlier this month, Oracle announced that Oracle Cloud Services offers more than two dozen additional PaaS and IaaS services.
Through offering direct access on Equinix Cloud Exchange, Oracle is enabling its enterprise customers to build cloud solutions and establish private connections between on-premise architecture and Oracle public cloud.
