Web browser developer Opera Software ASA has signed an agreement to lease data center space in Poland to provide faster Internet access for Opera Mini and Opera Turbo users in Central and Eastern Europe.

Stockholm, Sweden-based TeliaSonera will provide space and high-speed network access to Opera in its Warsaw data center, country manager for Opera offices in Poland Krystian Kolondra said in an email. The facility will mainly serve users of the company's Web browser for mobile devices (Mini) and its server-side optimization and compression solution (Turbo) in Poland, Ukraine and Russia.

Opera's market penetration is deepest in those three countries, according to a company statement.

According to StatCounter, Opera Mini was the most used mobile browser in Poland during the past 12 months, controlling 46 percent of the market. The developer enjoys 78 percent market share in both Russia and Ukraine.

Opera - based in Oslo, Norway - has not settled on how much space it will be using for its servers in the TeliaSonera facility, Kolondra said.

While initially focusing on Polish, Russian and Ukrainian customers, Opera plans to eventually connect all its Eastern and Central European customers through its servers in Poland.

"By working together, Opera's new server park in our site enables faster browsing by improving latency for customers," TeliaSonera VP Peter Arke said in a statement.

TeliaSonera owns and operates more than 27,000 miles of fiber network, with 100 points of presence in Europe, U.S. and Asia.
