Kontron is opening its SYMKLOUD series of cloud platform solutions will be pre-integrated OpenStack.

It said the move is a “significant” first milestone in its long-term strategy to design high density, integrated platform solutions for software-defined infrastructure (SDI).

The vendor said it has collaborated with partner ISVs to enable them to work with OpenStack as a bare-metal installation of their cloud-aware applications.

OpenStack Foundation’s executive director Jonathan Bryce said he is pleased to see Kontron helping telcos and cloud service providers with OpenStack.

“OpenStack ecosystem members like Kontron are key to expanding the global footprint of OpenStack clouds," Bryce said.

Alcatel-Lucent deploys Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack
Alcatel-Lucent said it will deploy the Red Hat Enterprise OpenStack Platform, based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Kernel-based virtual Machine (KVM), as the common platform for its Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solution called CloudBand.

The CloudBand NFV platform claims to offer a new way to design, deploy and manage networking services whilst supporting a flexible network infrastructure to move complex applications and services to the Cloud.

It said it will use Red Hat’s OpenStack platform to manage CloudBand Nodes, the turn-key, all-in-one compute, storage and network node system that interfaces with the Cloud-Band Management System.

Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand business unit, VP and GM Dor Skuler said: “Working with Red Hat, the major contributor to OpenStack, gives us both the visibility and ability to provide input to OpenStack upstream projects, in order to highlight specific stringent requirements networks demand. The insight that both Alcatel and Red Hat bring – from ETSI NFV to OpenStack – and the CloudBand NFV platform is essential to drive the telecommunications industry forward.”
