A large new data center and energy campus is being planned outside San Antonio, Texas.
HC Capital Partners and Herrmann Family Companies last week announced plans for the development of Energy Ranch, a 1,500+ acre data center campus.
Full details haven’t been shared, but BizJournal reports the site is about 60 miles south of San Antonio.
Full details on the potential scale and capacity of the campus, along with how it will be funded, haven't been disclosed.
The Energy Ranch property is owned by Herrmann Family Companies, a San Antonio-based family office with investments across energy, ranching, farming, real estate, and technology.
The first phase of the project will require around $2 billion to $4 billion in capital, according to the developers, and will deliver initial capacity 24 to 30 months after the start of construction.
Wrangler Infrastructure, the infrastructure development and operating platform of HC Infrastructure Partners, will lead the development of power-linked infrastructure assets to supply Energy Ranch.
The companies noted the site is close to multiple large-volume natural gas transmission pipelines, Wrangler Infrastructure’s midstream systems, two sources of existing purchase power, and the planned 765-kV transmission line.
"Energy Ranch represents a rare opportunity to develop a large-load data campus on land that is already owned, in a location purpose-built for power, water, and scale,” said Herb Chambers IV, co-founder of HC Capital Partners. “We are extremely excited about the creation of Energy Ranch and the ability to leverage our deep experience in developing traditional energy infrastructure to power, manage, and optimize the power generation, thermal cooling, and data creation needs of this investment opportunity. This platform brings together energy, infrastructure, and digital demand in a way that is both practical and forward-looking.”
HC Capital Partners is an investment firm focused on acquiring, developing, and operating crude oil, natural gas, processing, treating, and power generation assets in North America. It launched HC Infrastructure Partners early last year.
Chambers was previously the founder and former CEO of oil and gas company EVX Midstream. He started HC Capital alongside Herrmann Family chairman David Herrmann.
