An oil and gas company is developing a small data center in Kansas.

Local press, including KOAM and the Iola Register, report that a 3MW, 3,600 sq ft (334 sqm) data center is coming to the city of Iola.

Vine Energy purchased a vacant 10-acre industrial site on Marshmallow Lane, near Russell Stover Chocolates, from the city last year.

Groundwork began on the project last year, and the single-story facility is reportedly due live by September. Vine reportedly has an option to acquire another 10 acres from the city for further expansion.

Iola is a city and the county seat of Allen County. It is located around 100 miles (160.9km) southwest of Kansas City and 115 miles (185km) east of Wichita.

Little information about Vine Energy LLC, of Overland Park, is available. The company is known, however, to be involved with oil and gas operations.

"It wasn't platted at the time, so we were just looking for any kind of industrial development out there. And Vine Energy was the first nibble that we'd had since I've been here," Iola city administrator Matt Rehder told KOAM.
