US private equity firm Oak Hill Capital Partners has reached an agreement to acquire ViaWest, a large US data center services provider, for an undisclosed sum.

Denver, Colo.-based ViaWest operates 16 data centers in five states, offering colocation and managed services to mid-size and enterprise-level customers.

"With 17 acquisitions successfully completed, combined with a strong history of organic growth, our management team is eager to transition into our second phase of growth," ViaWest Chairman and CEO Roy Dimoff said in a statement.

"We are extremely pleased that our new financial sponsor is Oak Hill Capital, a partner that fully understands the industry and the opportunity."

ViaWest is currently owned by a group of investors, including Trinity Equity Investors, Goldman Sachs and Quilvest. Oak Hill expects to close the deal in the second quarter.

Oak Hill partner Bob Morse said the buyer was expecting to capitalize on "explosive growth" in Internet traffic and increasing demand from enterprises for data center outsourcing services as a result of the acquisition.

"ViaWest is ideally positioned to serve this growing demand, and we look forward to supporting the company's management team as they continue to build the franchise," he said.

The provider currently serves more than 1,000 customers, which include Frontier Airlines, The Denver Broncos (an NFL team), Chipotle and Northrop Grumman.

RBC, Barclays and Solar Capital provided debt and mezzanine financing for the acquisition. RBC Danies and Cowen acted as advisors to ViaWest.
