Equinix secured a deal with NYSE Liffe to provide its Frankfurt data center customers with access to the stock exchange group's derivatives trading platform in Europe.
Through Equinix's Financial eXchange data center, NYSE now offers cross-connect access, via a 10G low-latency network, to Liffe and other NYSE Euronext markets such as NYSE Arca Europe and Smartpool, according to an Equinix statement. These markets are accessible through NYSE's Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure (SFTI) European network.
Equinix Financial eXchange provides data center space for financial firms such as buy-and-sell companies, market data providers and financial networks.
"It's our goal at Equinix to bring the world's markets to our client-base," Director of Business Development John Knuff told datacenterdynamics.
The provider's Vice President Perina Steel said in a statement that the deal will eliminate the need for its financial customers in the Frankfurt data center to "long-line" to alternate access centers elsewhere in Europe to reach the NYSE markets.
Gary Jones, Head of Global Derivatives at NYSE Liffe, said the deal will also help companies located within the data center reduce their trading cost. "It eliminates the need for dozens and dozens of firms to try to get connectivity to London from Frankfurt," Knuff said.
The data center in question is the largest of Equinix's three Financial eXchange sites in Frankfurt, providing 118,000 square feet of floor space. There is also one eXchange data center in Dusseldorf and two in Munich. There are two eXchange data centers in Paris, one each in Amsterdam, Enschede, Zwolle and Geneva. Zurich hosts three eXchange data centers and London - four.
Knuff said that because Equinix was network-neutral, it had an edge in the competition to acquire clients from the "financial community." NYSE Liffe, the derivatives branch of NYSE Euronext, runs futures and options markets in Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, London and Paris.
Last week, Equinix announced a deal to provide colocation services to participants in the Tokyo Commodity Exchange Market (TOCOM) in two Financial eXchange data centers in Heiwajima and Shinagawa.
