NYSE Euronext, operator of two of the world's largest stock exchanges, announced plans to start moving trading of the first 19 stocks to its new data center in Mahwah, N.J., in August.
First batch of the 19 stocks, all listed on US stock markets, will be running in Mahwah beginning August 9, according to a Dow Jones Newswires report. The batch includes stocks of Dollar Tree, Omnivision Technologies and GT Solar International.
The new data center will reportedly allow for faster execution speeds. This is one of two new data centers NYSE has been developing. The second one, in the UK, is scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter. It will handle European stocks. According to Dow Jones, NYSE plans to triple the revenue of its technology businesses to $1bn over next five years and the new data centers figure largely in this plan.
Core technology services NYSE provides are colocation and fast connectivity between its matching engines and broker-dealers, market data providers and clearing firms. These companies pay fees to install their infrastructure in NYSE data centers to cut latency by way of physical proximity.
Stanley Young, CEO of NYSE Technologies and co-global CIO of NYSE Euronext, shared some details about the two new facilities with DatacenterDynamics in February. Both are 400,000 sq ft buildings.
The first three of five 20,000 sq ft modules of the Mahwah facility were slated to come online on day one. Two more modules would be left for future expansion. The facility has up to 28MW of power available.
The Basildon, England, data center will feature seven 3MW pods, providing 10,000 sq ft of raised floor each.
