NYSE Euronext has chosen Siel to supply static transfer switches (STS) for its new data center in Basildon, England. The contract is for a total of 56 custom-made 4-pole STS units.

Siel has so far delivered and deployed 18 systems, rated at 1,600 Amps each, in first phase of the deployment, the vendor said in a statement. The Gloucestershire, England-based vendor deployed the systems together with Prism, which supplied its 96-way intelligent Power Distribution Unit suite for the data center.

In addition to the custom systems, Siel provided four 160A 4-pole exchange systems.

More technical specs of the STS systems deployed at the new NYSE Euronext facility in UK:

  • ASTA 80kA fault rating certification
  • Typical transfer time: 4 milliseconds (1/4 cycle)
  • Input supplies derived from rotary UPS output
  • Delayed transfer back to primary power source
  • Form 4.7 segregation
  • Custom IP31 STS enclosures designed for easy termination of multiple single-core feeder cables
  • Dual mains inputs in the input section
  • Manual wrap around bypass Mccb's
  • Solid internal bus-bar connection to the PDU suite
  • Right- or left-handed connection to PDUs possible through a separate transition section
  • Monitoring by SCADA system through integrated ModBus interfaces

NYSE Euronext is an existing Siel customer, having deployed both the company's STS and UPS products at a number of other locations in the UK. The stock-exchange operator has also commissioned Siel to install a 600-kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar-energy installation on the roof of the Basildon data center.

Siel expects Phase I of the solar installation to generate more than 450,000kWh of electricity.
