NYSE Technologies launched its Capital Markets Community Platform into Europe based at its gigantic Basildon data center east of London.

The technology division of the NYSE Euronext stock exchange operator worked with EMC and Vmware saying the cloud based platform was designed and developed in partnership.

The move into Europe follows the US launch of the service last year which served Wall Street clients from its Mahwah data center in North New Jersey.

Ken Barnes, Global Head of Platform Services, NYSE Euronext said operating the complex technology stack from infrastructure to analytics across dozens of data centers required expert partnerships. “We chose to partner with EMC and VMware because of their expertise and their huge R&D development program. This meant we could minimise our upfront investment while gaining a technical competitive advantage,” he said.

“We tasked ourselves to re-imagine what a stock exchange operator was. And we realised that we needed to be about more than just trading stocks and that we needed to engage at deeper technical level to address buyer and seller needs. But we’re not just a computing provider or a data provider. It is a tool set.  The key point for us is that we bring agility to capital market participants through a mix of services, data transactions, integrated self service ability, compliance and controls. We don’t pretend to have solved it all but our road map is very rich,” said Barnes.

NYSE Euronext has established a consultancy practice with EMC to help large customers deploy the solution and Barnes says  there has been good traction in New York since the product was launched in July last year.

Secure Network
The platform consists of a range of services and provides access to the NYSE Technologies portfolio of lowÔÇÉlatency services including Superfeed, Managed Transaction Hub and the Secure Financial Transactions Infrastructure (SFTI) network.

The Capital Markets Community Platform and all related services are delivered over SFTI.

“Market leading innovations such as NYSE Technologies’ Capital Markets Community Platform provide solutions that will drive efficiencies in the capital markets at a critical time, and help our customers unlock their potential. The introduction of the cloud based Community Platform to Europe further extends our revolutionary service to a broader customer base and by utilising our resources and networks it allows us to expand our virtual capital markets community,” said Dominique Cerutti, President & Deputy Chief Executive Officer, NYSE Euronext.

Rainer Erlat, Chief Operating Officer EMEA & Chairman, EMC International, said: “Customers now have a community cloud platform at their fingertips, designed with the financial sector’s specific needs and requirements in mind and underpinned by an enterpriseÔÇÉclass IT infrastructure built on EMC’s industryÔÇÉleading technology.”

Maurizio Carli, Senior Vice President and General Manager, VMware EMEA, said: “We are thrilled that NYSE Technologies is broadening the reach of its Capital Markets Community Platform to Europe. Cloud providers who avoid a ‘one size fits all’ approach and solve critical infrastructure problems for their communities can deliver greater business value – lowering capital and operating costs while increasing IT agility, responsiveness and performance.”

Beta Test
The service has been beta testing with several customers including GF Futures Hong Kong which recenlty became the first Asian customer hosted at the Basildon European Liquidity Centre.

Dr. XIAO Cheng, General Manager of GF Futures, said: “We are pleased to be the first Asian customers utilising the NYSE Technologies European Capital Markets Community Cloud Platform. The global nature of the Community Platform, with its sophisticated and secure IT infrastructure, reflects the worldwide nature of the capital markets and provides choice and freedom for organisations like our own to operate and trade efficiently and competitively in a global marketplace.”
