GPU maker Nvidia became the first company in history to hit a $4 trillion valuation when its share price rose on Wednesday morning.
Jensen Huang’s firm, which has cashed in spectacularly on the AI revolution that is sweeping through the data center industry, saw its share price climb two percent when the US markets opened on Wednesday, meaning its market cap broke the $4 trillion barrier.
At the time of writing, it had dipped back to a mere $3.98 trillion.
Nvidia’s valuation hit $2 trillion for the first time in February 2024, and $3 trillion four months later.
GPUs produced by Nvidia are being deployed in data centers all around the world to train and run AI models and applications. It counts the likes of Microsoft and Apple, both of which it has overtaken to become the world’s most valuable company, among its customers.
The company’s most recent quarterly financial results saw it report $44.1 billion in revenue, up 10 percent on the previous quarter and 73 percent year-on-year.
Data center revenue accounted for $39.1 billion of the company’s income, up 10 percent from the previous quarter and 73 percent from the same period of 2024.
