The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly.NTT Communications, subsidiary of the Japanese telecom giant NTT Group, announced a plan to build a new data center in Hong Kong. This will be the company's largest data center outside of Japan.
The 323,000-sq-ft (30,000 sq m) data center, which will be called Tseung Kwan O, will become a sister facility of NTT's existing Tai Po data center in Hong Kong. Takanobu Maeda, president and CEO of NTT Com in Asia, said he expected the Tai Po facility to be fully occupied within the next two years and the new data center was needed to ensure continued service provision.
"This reflects the huge market demand for high-quality data centers and also reaffirms Hong Kong's edge as an international financial and communications hub," Maeda said in a statement.
NTT Worldwide Telecommunications will build and operate the data center, expected to come online between January and March 2013.
It will accommodate power densities of more than 20 KVA per rack. NTT expects it to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the US Green Building Council. The company did not say which level of LEED it was going for.
The data center will host points of presence for the company's Arcstar Global IP-VPN and Global e-VLAN connectivity services. NTT offers international customers connectivity to its core data centers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and the US through the company's large-capacity backbone as Inter-Data Connectivity service.
