NTT America - subsidiary of the Japanese telecommunications giant Nippon Telegraph and Telephone - said Monday that it had completed a new data center in Santa Clara, Calif. The facility is NTT's second in Silicon Valley, where the company will be providing managed services and colocation, leveraging its Tier 1 Internet backbone, according to a company statement.

"Our data center expansion enables us to provide customers with a Tier III colocation facility and the flexibility to add managed services to meet current and changing needs," NTT America COO Kazuhiro Gomi said in a statement. "The Silicon Valley technology corridor is an important market for customers who require enterprise-grade data center facilities for their corporate IT infrastructure."

The new facility houses 15,000 square feet of data center space. Managed services offered there include security, storage, back-up, remote hands and professional services. Besides commitments to power and network availability, NTT's service level agreements for the new facility include commitments to maintaining temperature and humidity levels within ASHRAE-compliant ranges.

The facility features redundant power feeds and fully redundant water cooling systems. Its security features include around-the-clock security staff, biometric access controls, bulletproof glass and digitally recorded closed circuit video monitoring.

NTT's other Silicon Valley data center is located in San Jose, Calif. The company also has data centers in New York, N.Y., Washington, D.C., in addition to a number of facilities in Asia, Australia and Europe. All of the company's data centers are connected to its IPv6-compliant network that reaches more than 150 countries.
