Data center and network connectivity provider Hurricane Electric has plugged its network into one of the world’s largest internet exchange points, located in the Czech Republic, the company said earlier this week.

On its website, Neutral Internet eXchange (NIX.CZ), says it is the largest exchange in the country and one of the 10 largest in the world. Located in Prague, it currently lists 85 member carriers.

The connection expands Hurricane Electric’s network reach in Europe and improves fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion-management capabilities for the company’s IPv6 access services.

Martin Levy, Huricane Electric’s director of IPv6 strategy, said the new connection strengthened the company’s commitment to the central European market, with its fast growth in demand for IPv6 services.

“This new connection will allow Hurricane Electric to continue its aggressive global expansion while delivering next-generation IP access.”

Hurricane Electric says it is the largest IPv6-native internet backbone provider in the world. IPv6 is the next version of the internet protocol. The version that currently moves almost all internet traffic is IPv4, but it is quickly running out of addresses for new entities.
