New York University (NYU) has unveiled its Torch supercomputer, the most powerful high-performance computing (HPC) system in the state of New York.
Named after the university’s logo, the 10.79 petaflops supercomputer is more than five times more powerful than its previous supercomputer, Greene, the university said.
The system is powered by Intel Xeon Platinum 8592 processors and more than 500 Nvidia H200 GPUs, and will be used to support research across artificial intelligence, climate modeling, and biomedical science.
Torch is also more energy efficient than Greene, ranking 40 on the most recent edition of the Green500 list of most sustainable supercomputers, achieved via a liquid cooling system that improves efficiency and reduces overall energy consumption.
“Torch will empower NYU’s research community to achieve new heights of scientific exploration in the fields of AI, climate modeling, and Alzheimer’s research, to name just a few, as they push the boundaries of innovation even further," said Stacie Bloom, NYU's chief research officer & vice provost for research.
