A new server vendor Low Power Company (or Lopoco) announced itself to the world this week, unveiling a line of servers it says are more efficient than the industry standard.

The product line includes 12-core, four-core and eight-core servers, as well as microservers. Lopoco says the products will perform well in conventional server applications, such as virtual-machine host, email, database, file sharing, web services, Hadoop and Hive.

The new company's CEO Andrew Sharp said its servers were for efficient, cost-effective and ideal for small businesses as well as “cloud enterprises.”

Lopoco has already secured a number of customers. One of them is Light and Motion Industries, a Monterey, California-based vendor of underwater casings for photo and video gear.

Daniel Emerson, Light and Motion CEO, said Lopoco servers the company has deployed have performed flawlessly. “We are also pleased with the power savings,” he added.

“I would recommend them to any small business looking to move off the power hogs that pass for servers these days.”
