Data center service provider i/o Data Centers has raised a new round of capital from existing and new investors. The company will invest the additional US$105m in accelerated delivery of its products and services, expanded capacity to produce its i/o Anywhere modular data center product and research and development.

i/o CEO George Slessman said in a statement that the new capital will also fund expansion plans in Europe and Asia. "In addition, we will use the proceeds of this financing to fulfill orders for our i/o Anywhere modular data center technology from enterprise customers across the globe."

The fresh round of investment was led by i/o's existing investor Sterling Partners, a new investor JP Morgan Chase and one or more members of the company's management team. Signal Hill acted as the financial advisor on the transaction.

i/o did not reveal where in Asia or Europe it was planning to build its next data center. The company announced its latest data center capacity expansion in March, when it said it had launched a 30MW phase of a data center in a 830,000-sq-ft building in New Jersey.

The provider is also amid build-out of the second phase of its data center in Phoenix. (Learn about the Phoenix data center market in depth at the upcoming DatacenterDynamics Phoenix conference on 13 April)

Both the New Jersey facility and the second phase in Phoenix use the company's modular data center technology.

i/o says the technology allows for a much quicker time to deploy data center capacity than the traditional brick-and-mortar approach because individual modules are pre-manufactured before being delivered to the data center site for assembly.
