Venture capital firm Nadia Partners has officially launched its new data center vehicle, Beacon AI Centers.

The Calgary-based company has said it will add 1.8GW of capacity for hyperscale operators and has a total data center pipeline of 3.8GW. The data centers will be located across Alberta, Canada.

It is also developing several AI data center shell developments that will come online across Alberta by 2027.

According to the company, the shell data center concept will expedite the construction process, providing hyperscalers with scalable infrastructure that can be quickly outfitted with the latest technology.

Beacon says it will develop its data centers using an energy-first approach, securing scalable and sustainable power solutions to support its facilities. The company did not disclose what form of power solutions it would deploy.

According to the company website, it has more than 1,600 acres of acquired land with optimal fiber, energy, and grid connectivity. In addition, the firm claims to have 2GW of load capacity registered with a regional utility.

Reports on the new data center firm first surfaced in December. According to local reporting, the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) had at least six data center applications in the early stages of development, five of which were submitted by Beacon.

In addition, an April AESO document suggested that Beacon is planning to construct five AI data hubs that will consume more than 1.2GW of power. Three of these projects are already in the AESO queue.

Three sites are said to be in the Langdon, High River, and Spruce Grove areas. The former two are outside Calgary, and the latter is to the west of Edmonton.

According to a filing with Rocky View County, Beacon is planning a 400MW, 946-acre data center campus outside Indus (located east of Calgary and close to Langdon) via a CA$4bn (US$2.84bn) investment alongside a solar farm. The company is targeting a December 2026 energization date.

In addition to Beacon, Nadia Partners has invested in AI data center developer Dromore Energy.

Joseph Shovlin is listed as both Dromore and Beacon’s CEOs. Dromore claims to have 2.5GW of development projects around Alberta.

Full details surrounding Beacon’s leadership team will be revealed in the coming months.
